A Message from the IMDM President

Corazon Tecson JimenezDear Fellow IMDMers, Development Professionals and Friends:

The complexity of the development challenge is that it can't be solved by working on it alone. It is multi-stakeholder in nature and necessitates collective ownership of the challenge – as it is interconnected with other multiple challenges or problems. Solutions must be forged by multiple stakeholders acting in concert, acting as one. If one party is "out of tune", the solution unravels or wavers. Take for instance the current Euro-zone financial crisis. Even in disaster and emergency response we see this – for instance the Macondo Oil Spill off the Gulf of Mexico. And how about the challenge of the Climate Change?

More than the knowledge, skills and experience we have as individuals is the imperative for us, with all our diversity, to work together as one team – to forge solutions and execute them, persistently, cohesively and dynamically to achieve our common goals.

This was our realization when we – graduates of the AIM MDM course founded the International Movement of Development Managers (IMDM) in 2003. Now on its 8th year of championing the cause of development management and sustainable growth, IMDM, in partnership with AIM Alumni Relations Office and AIM Alumni Association, and with support from the AIM-Center for Development Management, is hosting a one-day DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS TUNE-UP SUMMIT on Dec. 13, 2011 at the Fuller Hall, Asian Institute of Management.

In this regard, we respectfully invite you to join us as we explore ways to collaborate, address and seek ways to harness our collective knowledge, skills and tools in facing the complex challenges and issues on Development. Attached is the e-primer for the summit which provides additional information on what we will work on.

We see this summit not only as a one-time event but as an early engagement of Development Professionals in preparing and aligning plans for 2012 including involvement in preparing for a bigger Development Professionals Conference in February next year. For us, it is a continuing purposeful journey of finding solutions and taking action as one team for Sustainable Development.

We enjoin you to take this good opportunity to be part of the journey.

For your inquiries, please consult the program secretariat, or Henry Tenedero (Summit Director) or for IMDM specifics, IMDM Vice President Gina Barte.

Sincerely,
sig
Jesus Alfonso Z. Carpio
President IMDM
